The 19th Annual Scholarship Gala Recap

I love the challenge that covering an event like this presents. To gather all the meaningful BROLL of the key events of the evening is very difficult. From silent auction items being bid-on by donors. To getting audio from the soundboard of the AV vendor for the event. Recording all speakers on a tripod and shooting each handheld as well and moving around the entire space to get all different types of cutaway shots. I was covering the event to put together something like this, but in order to that really well, you really have to record the entire speeches and also be getting shots of people at their tables bidding on live auction items. Recording everything also allows for long-form versions of each speaker for people who want to listen to the entire speech by our students or guest speakers. There’s so many things to figure out and remember and it’s really fun to see it all come together! I even really loved making the thumbnail for the YouTube video, with that really fancy font that is the font we use every year it just looks really cool. Mostly thanks to Dean Orewiler a really amazing photographer. That was not a screenshot of video I captured although I do have a shot int he video that looks very similar and I think that helps, but Dean was likely right over my shoulder getting the same shot I was, and for the thumbnail his looks much better! Far more depth of field that I could be recording motion at.
